He quickly scans the last paragraph of the biometrics report he was reading, sure he must’ve swapped whatever words Rocky just uttered with some sentence on plant cell bodies. His friend just makes a clicking sound in his throat and leans closer, since Grace is clearly hard of hearing.
“See Grace’s body, yes,” Rocky spoke with factual precision, like this wasn’t something wild to spring on a guy alone… in his dormitory… on his bed, where the both of them were currently lounging.

Summary
Aposematism in animals is designed to prevent attack. It doesn't always work, sometimes it's ineffective against some predators, sometimes it isn't. As a primary defence mechanism, Newt is a colourful individual with his blue coat and golden hair. His secondary defences aren't visible however and often are what surprise his opponents the most. Bright creatures tend to be very toxic to predators, but mammals like honey badgers are aggressively defensive. Newt is a Hufflepuff and the emblem of his house suits him well. Signalling theory tells you that Newt warns off predators and opponents with his colours, but when they don't take heed he'll show his claws and fight tooth-and-nail. It's what survivors do.
And Newt Scamander is definitely a survivor.

After taking in A-Yuan as his adoptive son, it was both a blessing and a curse, as in Wei Ying thrived in the irregular sleep patterns of a toddler, the sudden changes in moods and whims (to be fair, A-Yuan had very little of those but he was a toddler nonetheless), but having regular nap times on the other hand helped both of them. And were kind of mandatory in the process of the adoption because what else did an adoption agency of the government cherish? Right, normalcy, routine, a schedule. But for A-Yuan, Wei Ying endured it effortlessly.
Until his 30th birthday. The day everything changed. (For the better, but that was only known to future-Wei Ying; present-Wei Ying was very much in a panic.)
When he bumped into a person, trying to rush through the gate, Wei Ying’s inner voice changed into some baritone voice he had never heard before and his “thoughts” were suddenly very interested in getting to this quarterly meeting on time. Which meeting? Did he forget something? Could be, to be honest.

Each step is agony increasing, the thing in his spine trembling ever-harder and then Wade calls his name and he stops, turns, sees those eyes again; pleading, desperate.

"Come home with me," Wade blurts out, and Logan finds that he's taken steps toward Wade without realizing it, closing the yawning gap between them, and the thing in his spine relaxes just a little.
"Okay," he says.

Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

Grace had an aversion to swearing that Rocky couldn’t understand - which was frustrating since obviously Rocky had wanted to learn every Eridian curse word under the sun after they’d learned to communicate. It was an overall stupid and inconsequential thing, but he was just itching to hear him let loose a squeaky, frustrated fuck.
Rocky added that to his ever growing mental list of things he wanted to do with him: get Gracie off so good he finally said fuck.
Rocky was confident in his abilities to make it happen.
He’d be the best damn lay Grace ever had, actually. Alien species, be damned. Rocky was nothing if not adaptable and teachable; he aimed to please. He’d do whatever necessary to aid his best friend in succumbing to absolute bliss. It was a little ridiculous how fast that had become his new life’s mission.
Project Get-Grace-Off.
